Description of Course The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are expected to issue final regulations for implementation of the Medicare Part D drug benefit in mid-January. Discussion will focus on the final regulations issued by CMS for implementation of the Medicare drug benefit. The two hour presentation will cover the implementation timeline for the Medicare Part D Drug Benefit, the impact on long term care pharmacy and the nursing facility resident, and the effect on long term care pharmacy business practices in 2006.

- Describe the implementation timeline of the Medicare Part D drug benefit.
- Describe the implications of the Medicare Part D drug benefit for the Nursing Facility Resident, Skilled Nursing Facility Resident, and Assisted Living Resident.
- Describe Medication Therapy Management Services and formularies as regulated by the Medicare part D drug benefit.
- Describe the impact on business practices for pharmacy and consultant pharmacists.
- Describe stakeholders response to the Medicare part D drug benefit and how the profession will begin the implementation of the regulations.
